New Opera Web Browser Zooms Ahead of the Rest

Filed under: Consumer World, Telecommunication Management, Web Infos — admin @ 11:02 am

Computerworld, the computer focused magazine recently got its hands on the new beta version of Opera’s latest web browser Opera 10.5. Putting the web browser though a series of tests, the Computerworld team found it to be the world’s fastest browser available currently.

Opera’s new offering was compared with other browsers like Safari and Google Chrome. The magazine found that Opera 10.5 employed a new JavaScript enginewhich was responsible for improving the overall performance of the browser and ultimately providing the fastest interface for online browsing.

The benchmarking revealed that the new beta version beat other browsers by huge margins across various tests. It was noticed that Opera 10.5 was almost 15 per cent faster than Safari for Windows and 20 percent faster than Google Chrome. Even the preview test of the browser revealed that it was twice as fast as Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and over eight times faster than its predecessor Opera 10.10. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 was also found to be ten times slower than the new Opera 10.5 beta.

Besides the speed, there were other features that caught the interest of the testing team such as a new interface, lesser space requirements for menus and support for Windows 7’s Aero Peek and Jump List features. When developing the browser, Opera had also given a thought to privacy. While using the Opera 10.5 browser, a user could now mark a tab private in order to block browsing history from being stored, a feature much appreciated by the testing team.

Though the final release date of the browser has still not been announced, computer geeks and software testers can go ahead and download the beta version.

Standing out at Career Fairs

Filed under: House Of Tools, Telecommunication Management, Templates Stuff — admin @ 8:33 pm

Standing out at a Job Fair can make a difference in your job hunt. Career Faires are starting to pick up, and Dice is running some nice ones, called Targeted Job Fairs. At a Bay Area Career Faire in early 2010, 10 companies as showing up, and Dice has 82 career fairs scheduled for 2010 across the States.

How do you stand out at a Job Faire? The rivalry can be sizeable, but you can help yourself jump out from the gang with advance preparation. At AA-Careers, we have a straight-forward step-by-step process to get ready. Plan to go? Here’s how to prepare:

First, research the organizations that are going and pick your targets. Use the World Wide Web to check out the organizations that are there before you go. Go to their web sites and see if they have their jobs posted. Pick a reasonable number to target, and get ready to spend an hour researching each one. It’s hard to do more than 7 in a day, and three or four is a much more reasonable target. For each company, you want to know: recent news, key product lines, and contacts you know. Try to see if you know anyone at the target companies. You should end up with a page or two of research for each company/job.

Second, if there are job openings on the web, read them to see what the organization is looking for. Create a mapping of your accomplishments and skills to the requirements of the job. Make the language match. If the hiring company calls customers "clients", your resume should do the same thing. The accomplishments should be written in the style of the hiring organization.

Third, create a ‘brief sales pitch’ for each likely company/job combination. Write down a sixty second ‘thumbnail’ that you can repeat out loud describing why you are a great candidate for that job. You’ll use this in your resume and when you meet people at the job stall.

Fourth, modify your resume for each position. The objective on your resume should exactly match the job you’re aiming for. The executive summary should be a written form of your “mini sales pitch” for the job. Then choose the accomplishments and skills that most clearly match the job prerequisites. Especially at a Job Faire, the purpose of your resume is a sales tool for you – to get you on-site job interviews. It should be very easy to see that you’re a match based on your resume.

Fifth, dress and prepare as if you’re doing on-site interviews. Dress nicely and be fittingly groomed. Don’t over do-it (this isn’t a date!) and don’t underdress (no jeans or t-shirts, no matter how much you paid for them). Avoid strong cologne or perfume.

Finally, practice your ‘mini-sales-pitch’. Collect your research and the resume for each opportunity – bring a couple of copies for each – and put each in a distinctly marked folder. Keep them in a lightweight briefcase or folio.

Remember to smile, and good hunting!

BT Revises Rates and Changes Free Evening Calls Timings

Telecommunications major, BT has decided to revise its daytime calling rates and also change the timing of its free evening calls. The new standard daytime call rate would move up from 5.4p to 5.9p for every minute. This new rate, however, would not be applicable for subscribers who have opted for the In Contact Plus package, BT Basic and Light User Scheme. The new rates would apply from April 1.

Changes in the timings of free evening calls will also come into effect from April 1. These calls were free everyday from 6 pm in the evening to 6 am of the following day. From April 1, however, the timings would change and free calls would become effective from 7 pm in the evening to 7 am of the following day. The changed timings would be applicable to all subscribers except those who had opted for the Anytime package.

According to The Guardian, the notification regarding these changes has been sent by the telecommunications major to its subscribers through letters and emails that have an inappropriate subject. This could lead to confusion as many users would ignore the notification.

Citing its reasons for the change in the timings for free calls, the telecom major’s spokesperson said that most calls between 6 pm and 7 pm were official and short. Calls between 8 pm and 9 pm were likely to be lengthier as they were calls usually made to friends or family members. Thus, it claims, the change would not have an adverse impact on the customers.

Imposition of Government’s Stealth Tax Still a Possibility despite Criticism

The UK Government’s plans to impose a stealth tax on all fixed lines to the tune of £6 per year, which roughly translates to 50p per month, may still see the light of the day despite a recent indication by treasury minister Stephen Timms that the plan will be abandoned for the time being.

During the publication of the Digital Britain report, the government said that it felt the need to expand and diversify the country’s digital network to ensure that all houses in the UK have access to internet. The aim of the government’s broadband-for-all agenda is to ensure mobile broadband UK connectivity. However, this requires a lot of funding and the government by way of this stealth tax expects to raise money to the tune of £150-£175 million for providing Next Generation Access (NGA) to its people.

According to the government, collections from the tax will be huge given the fact that all houses in the UK have fixed lines. However, this idea is still in its discussion stages at the Digital Britain Forum.

Critics feel that the government’s digital vision suffers from inadequate planning and that the government should in fact aim higher to ensure a bright digital future for the nation, which it desperately needs.

UK Lagging Behind, Japan and Korea Lead Broadband Speed Race

It has been predicted by Futuresource Consulting, a research group that the broadband industry will break the 500 million mark next year. Moreover, it has also said that 60 per cent of the technology for broadband will be DSL, while a fifth of the population will still be getting by with cable systems.

Futuresource has envisioned that the world’s dependence on broadband technology will steadily increase in the future. The number of broadband connections in Africa and the Middle East will increase by a third by the next year. Major contribution for the world’s broadband explosion is expected from these two places. Meanwhile, developed countries are more likely to see a drop in the number of new connections, which will have an effect on the bigger picture.

India is a country to look out for as the market for broadband is expected to increase to almost 25 million there, according to Patrik Pfandler, Senior Market Analyst. He added that even though the country has one of the lowest penetration rates right now, there is going to a five time increase in the market over the next four years.

According to Ofcom reports, the UK has a disappointing broadband speed of just 3.6Mb (click for a broadband comparison), whereas Japan and Korea are leading the world’s broadband speed race with an average speed of almost 30Mb. Clearly, the customers there are reaping the maximum benefits of broadband.

Mobile Broadband Dongles Fast Becoming a Fashion Item

Providers are on the lookout for more ways to draw users to their mobile broadband products, and this is clear from the merchandise that comes with these connections. USB dongles are especially attractive now due to their shinier new avatar and increased storage capacity (up to 8 GB), which makes it unnecessary for you to carry a USB memory stick with you if you have your dongle.

You can buy a range of skins and themes for your USB dongles in everything from false crocodile skin to leopard print in a whole host of patterns and any colour imaginable. All you need to do is go online (using your mobile broadband dongle!) and shop for what you need.

Mobile broadband dongles are thus fast becoming a fashion item, making it a fashion crime for you to move around with an old black USB stick covered with network branding. It is a niche market but it may just grow more popular as it has come up with a special mobile broadband for girls in pink! So go on girls keep up and click here for the latest in dongle deals.

You now have designers joining the fray with Henry Holland having already designed a dongle for O2 with a polka dotted theme. However, if polka dots do not suit your style, than Orange has come up with the pink E160 dongle with 8 GB storage, and the Asus Eee PC netbook, also pink, looks quite attractive too – although you shouldn’t really buy both as the shades do not go well together and the Eee PC anyways has on-board mobile broadband.

Filed under: Telecommunication Management — admin @ 3:15 am

Unfortunately for BlackBerry, the Curve 8320 has not been quite popular with the public, in spite of this it remains worth evaluating. The BlackBerry Curve 8320 is a good general purpose phone that would be suitable for a very broad range of users. Compared to other handsets for the price the Curve 8320 is quite fairly well featured.

If you want a really cheap deal, order online where it is simple to find loads of bargains to choose from. Find the latest deals try using a site to compare mobile phones to compare tariffs on the BlackBerry Curve 8320 .

The Curve 8320 weighs 111 g which is pretty average for a mobile handset in its price bracket. We found the Curve 8320 very small. The BlackBerry Curve 8320 comes equipped with bluetooth, which means it can be used with with a number of accessories. Deciding on the Very Best High Speed Internet Access Offer

Filed under: Telecommunication Management — admin @ 12:02 pm

When broadband users are looking at the broadband landscape browsers can often feel dazed. The broadband market is full with providers supplying lots of high speed broadband packages with different upload and download speeds and download limitations.

You may want to look up every single high speed internet supplier directly to learn what internet packages the corporation offer, download speeds they give and their contract terms. If you wish to absorb this info in one place broadband users may desire to see a high speed broadband comparison website.

If customers already have a high speed broadband service provider and wish to seek a cheaper organisation then not a thing should prohibit you from using another broadband firm, especially if a benefit is to be made. Internet comparison corporations will often be able to take internet users through the process and what steps may be taken.

When customers are seeking for the leading offer money may not be the main deciding factor. Tons of high speed internet access businesses will advertise a truly low entry package to tempt budding customers over to them. When high speed broadband packages are extraordinarily low in money please make sure you learn what internet speed the broadband service provider will provide, what download limits you will be provided with and also the terms and conditions of the contract. The download allocation is key as numerous companies can often charge broadband users per GB that internet users go over, so if your broadband package has an eight GB download limits and surfers download ten scary movies that month, you are more than likely to have downloaded 10 Gigabytes (i.e. one Gigabyte per movie) – which is 2GB’s beyond your download allocation, and that is two GB worth of internet downloads the organisation might charge over and above your monthly package charge. Get the cheapest Orange broadband deals available with Compare Broadband UK.

When looking at the hottest deal please of course check whether or not the provider will charge an admin fee and if there are any charges associated with being supplied a wireless internet router. All these additional costs can all mount up and broadband users will be left with little savings when compared to other broadband packages.

Thankfully, broadband provider comparison corporations might often flag up any additional costs and internet users can make an informed and unbiased decision.
