In Recent times the Sole Partner to Own Been Seconded through the Firm
Travers partner to adopt senior role on secondment at RBS
Travers Smith litigation partner Toby Robinson is defined to try a secondment in the firm’s client RBS as interim head of litigation, regulatory and investigations.
Robinson will join RBS for any six-month period from February in 2010 while the current postholder is on leave. His secondment can be an unusual move for Travers, which rarely sends partners in-house. In recent times the sole partner to own been seconded through the firm with an in-house role may be corporate lawyer Anthony Foster, who joined the Bank of England for six months during 2009.
Robinson is a partner at Travers since 2008, as he joined from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where he was a part in the financial institutions disputes group.
Travers finance partner Paul Lyons said: “The ongoing global financial crisis has seen an amazing rise in the incidence of regulatory investigations. Within our experience very few banking institutions are already untouched with that development.
“The strength in our regulatory investigations group has triggered a tremendous rise in the number of instructions in this area received from your variety of clients. It is extremely rare for individuals to second partners; we are, however, delighted that Toby may be invited to consider this important role within RBS.”
The news practices the firm has arranged on the string of high-profile deals recently, including advising Blacks Leisure on its administration, with the most of Blacks’ assets sold to JD Sports in a deal reportedly worth £20m.
The firm also took a lead role on Doughty Hanson’s £250m acquiring coal and oil logistics company Asco at the close of this past year, advising the selling shareholders including Phoenix Equity Partners, Indigo Capital and Asco’s senior management team.
