Three-of-a-kind

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 4:00 pm

While a huge part of every poker hand takes place before the flop, the flop is where the majority of the conjecture ends. When the first three cards come out every online poker player at the table knows what his starting hand is worth, and even then, there’s a pretty high level of uncertainty. Even a good like three-of-a-kind poker online pair can be cracked pretty easily if you’re not careful. If you draw trips, you’re looking good, but you can still be cracked. Here are a few things to think about if you make a set. The best-case scenario is when you have a pocket pair and you hit a set on the flop. If you’ve got pocket 9’s and the flop comes out 9-A-5 with no flush possibility, you’re sitting pretty. Without a pair on the board and no flushes or straights out there, you’ve got a good chance of winning. If you don’t have a pocket pair, but you draw two cards for a set, you’re at a higher risk of being cracked. If you have A-9 and the flop comes out 9-9-Q, because if any of your opponents has 9-Q, she’ll have you beat. It’s not very likely, but it can happen, so bet and raise, but keep an eye out for a full boat on the table.

Learn to Pay Attention

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 10:28 am

Poker is supposed to a game for alert people. I thought that this was a generally understood concept until that I realized that there are a lot of people signing up for poker online games these days who just don’t follow the action. While this is annoying enough in an online poker, it is particularly vexing when this happens in a live game. There is no automatic action button to press when you play a live game. It should be pretty obvious why you need to pay attention at the poker table, but let’s recap the reasons so that I will not have to sit through another poker game with new players with their heads in the clouds.

When you pay attention to the game and know when you are supposed to act, than you keep the game going at a steady speed. If you slow down the game, no one at the table will appreciate it very much. You will get many unsavory looks from your fellow players if you slow the game down to a snail’s pace because you are not paying attention. An added perk of actually paying attention to the game that you are paying to play is that you will not lose out on any potential winnings. If you are not paying attention and don’ realize that you have won, than you don’t get the money. The lure of some cold hard cash should be enough to get you paying attention.

My Bad Beat

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 12:36 pm

Losing to a bad beat never fun-it’s pretty awful feeling to have done everything right and have the online poker cards turn on you at the last minute. On the other side of things, it can be pretty awkward to win with a bad beat. There’s an odd mixture of elation and regret that comes along with sucking out. A few weeks ago, I was playing poker online at a home game, and eventually I ended up playing head’s up for first place. After trading the poker online chip lead around a few times, I was ahead. I got a decent hand, decided to go all in, and my opponent quickly called. I turned over my King-10 of Hearts, and my opponent turned over an Ace-King unsuited, pretty much burying my hand. The flop came out Ace-King-Jack, the turn was a 5, and just as I was getting ready to get up, the Queen came out, giving me the straight to beat his two pair. I was happy to have won, and the thrill of good luck was exhilarating, but I felt like I had ripped my opponent off. Luckily, he was (and remains) a good sport, congratulated me on my win, and accepted my apologies for the bad beat.

Beware when Microstakes Players Raise

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 4:12 pm

Microstakes online poker players are conservative to a fault. They always play based on what they have, they never bluff, and they don’t try any of those fancy tactics seen in high stakes online poker games. One of the other strong characteristics of microstakes players is that they are notoriously hesitant to raise. There is a couple of difference reasons for this trait, most of which stem from the fact that microstakes players are typically new to the game. Raising is scary to many new players who aren’t quite sure if they have a strong hand. This is why you will almost never see a microstakes player raise preflop. They just can’t tell if they have anything good. The only time that a microstakes casino online player will raise is when they know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they have a decent hand. They raise when they have something like pocket rockets that is almost guaranteed to take the pot. Be on your guard and look for raises. As soon as you see a preflop raise from a microstakes player you should go ahead and fold. They are obviously holding a monster poker hand that they do not want you to know about.

On the Bubble

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 10:06 am

When you play in an online poker tournament, your situations changes constantly. Your position changes with every hand, the chips in front of you and those around you will vary from hand to hand, and the situations in the tournament structure itself will vary as the game goes on. If you don’t adjust your strategy to these changes in the game, it won’t be long before you’re on the sidelines wondering what went wrong.

Take a look at being on the bubble. When poker players are on the bubble, it means that the next person to get knocked out is the last player to not win any money. If the tournament pays the top five finishers, the sixth-place player is knocked out on the bubble, and gets nothing for all his hard work.

That said, nobody wants to lose on the bubble. If you’re on the bubble, adjust your play in an appropriate way when you play poker online. Play more tightly, but don’t lock down your game completely. Be very selective about the hands that you play, but make sure that you don’t blind out. Also, if someone goes all in and someone else calls, don’t feel the need to call. Unless you’ve got the nuts, let someone else take the risk, and do the work.

Pre-Flop Variations

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 10:57 am

Texas Hold ‘Em poker generally respond to pre-flop raises by groaning and folding. Everyone wants to see a cheap flop, which is why a pre-flop raise is a good tool for narrowing the field at this jeux de casino. A pre-flop raise, like any bet, must be made with a specific goal in mind – to get others to fold or to get some action from just one or two players.

Sizing your poker online pre-flop should take several factors into consideration. Most often, players tend to make a standard 3x the blind raise, especially from early position which is the most precarious since those betting behind may re-raise. If no re-raise comes, then the continuation bet can be the same as the initial raise, putting less chips at risk.

In later position, a bigger pre-flop raise can be put out, especially when there are only a few limpers, with the blinds still undecided. This type of bet will most likely cause others to fold. But don’t use it every time you’re last to act. That creates too much predictability about your play. Putting a small value bet from late position can trick your opponents into thinking you are trying to get action with a big hand.

By varying your betting patterns pre-flop, especially from later positions, you will make it much harder for anyone to get a read on your pocket cards.

Gifts for the Cigar Aficionado

Filed under: Fun Place, Helpful Stuff, Lifestyle Resources — admin @ 1:07 pm

Many men appreciate a good cigar every once in a while. A cigar-related gift is a classic way to celebrate important milestones like weddings or birthdays. A fine cigar humidor, stainless steel lighter, or other classy cigar gift is the perfect choice for a cigar-smoking father, husband, friend, or colleague. These distinguished accessories are sure to please any cigar aficionado and turn cigar smoking from an enjoyable activity into a bona-fide male bonding ritual when you gather to celebrate the big event.

You don’t have to stick to plain cigar gifts. There is a wide assortment to choose from, including one-of-a-kind styles to reflect the recipient’s personality. For example, if he loves sports, consider an NFL-themed humidor. Personalized cigar humidors make a great gift for any cigar smoker. Even if they already have enough fine cigars, a cigar humidor makes a stylish way to store them. A humidor is also a classy way to store valuables like cufflinks.

Storing cigars in a humidor is the recommended way to age them after purchase. They may also be kept in stylish cigar holders made of stainless steel. For a special touch, the cigar holder may be monogrammed with the owner’s initials. A sharp cigar cutter is another must-have cigar accessory. Cigars should be lit with a lighter, not with a match. High quality Zippo lighters last for years, and can also be engraved for a special touch.

An engraved or personalized cigar cutter or holder will surely be kept as a keepsake for years to come. The recipient will remember you and the special event every time your gift is used. Useful and fun gifts that the recipient will actually use are a much better option than generic gifts. Using these dignified gifts can turn the recipient from an amateur cigar smoker into a cigar aficionado.

Sports Betting, Stocks, Poker

Filed under: Fun Place, Internet Gambling, Online Games — admin @ 11:58 am

It was recently brought to my attention that people know nothing about stocks. They own a share of something and believe it means that they are basically betting on the success of that business, which is true, but they are ignorant of the dependencies their stock has to do with other variables. Market sways, supply/demand, wars, politicians, republican/democratic congress, wall street, etc. The people who play the market are usually not the ones creating and managing their portfolios, so they basically just look at an outcome. To me, this is kind of like getting a flush draw in poker and always going all in, no matter what the circumstances. You’re not paying attention to how you got there, who else is there, how they’ve been playing, or what they could possibly have. These are the factors that go into your decision making process, not just what your two cards are and what are the three cards on the flop. You’re missing a lot of information if you play this way. The savvy investor is probably a good tournament poker player though. They have to take account of the blinds, the players, and all of the variables to help them make the best decsion at the moment.

Conversely, I believe that sports betters are decent cash game poker players because they usually have to make their own decisions, independent of a lot of other nonsense. They have to look at the spreads, figure out who’s hurt, who’s got what advantage, pick a side, and then pick an amount of money they feel suitable to wager.

Firstly, sports betting is a direct bet. There is a line, and though there are variables in the outcome arrives, your bet stands alone. Betting on the Knicks vs the Celtics has virtually nothing to do with the Pistons game. Betting on Randy Couture in a UFC fight has nothing to do with the lightweight undercard, but it has everything to do with his opponent and how they match up.

In my opinion, many people feel investing in the stock market is a direct bet, when in fact, there are less variables to account for in sports betting. Depending on how you do in each of these arenas, you might be better suited to play either cash games or tournament poker.
