New Opera Web Browser Zooms Ahead of the Rest
Computerworld, the computer focused magazine recently got its hands on the new beta version of Opera’s latest web browser Opera 10.5. Putting the web browser though a series of tests, the Computerworld team found it to be the world’s fastest browser available currently.
Opera’s new offering was compared with other browsers like Safari and Google Chrome. The magazine found that Opera 10.5 employed a new JavaScript enginewhich was responsible for improving the overall performance of the browser and ultimately providing the fastest interface for online browsing.
The benchmarking revealed that the new beta version beat other browsers by huge margins across various tests. It was noticed that Opera 10.5 was almost 15 per cent faster than Safari for Windows and 20 percent faster than Google Chrome. Even the preview test of the browser revealed that it was twice as fast as Mozilla Firefox 3.6 and over eight times faster than its predecessor Opera 10.10. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8 was also found to be ten times slower than the new Opera 10.5 beta.
Besides the speed, there were other features that caught the interest of the testing team such as a new interface, lesser space requirements for menus and support for Windows 7’s Aero Peek and Jump List features. When developing the browser, Opera had also given a thought to privacy. While using the Opera 10.5 browser, a user could now mark a tab private in order to block browsing history from being stored, a feature much appreciated by the testing team.
Though the final release date of the browser has still not been announced, computer geeks and software testers can go ahead and download the beta version.
