Secular Puja

Filed under: Great Religion Tips — admin @ 6:43 pm

Though I have been in Delhi for the past twenty years, I never dared to enter a puja pandal (temporary shelter, used for worship), as I was under the impression that it must be a ‘Bengali’ affair (an ethnic group belong to western part of India). Unfortunately I did not have any Bengali friends at that time to make me realize that how my perception was wrong. The opportunity to visit a Puja Pandal came on my way only after my shifting to my new residence called Kendriya Vihar.

During the month of October, few Bengali friends of Kendriya Vihar came to my residence and informed that they are going to organize their first Durga puja festival at our colony and invited me to attend the puja.

Since I was always keen to visit a puja pandal but never did so due to my perception, considered the invitation as an opportunity to fulfill my desire to visit a Puja Pandal.

On the first day of Durga puja, I entered the puja pandal with full of anxiety and thrill. The moment I entered the pandal, I was completely taken aback on seeing the huge Durga idol. I was totally mesmerized by its beauty. It was a breathtaking experience.

Lot of devotees gathered there and started offering their prayers to the idol. Few devotees were dancing in front of the idol with rhythmic sound of the drumbeat. I was completely spellbound on seeing the devotees dancing in front of the idol by holding the mud bowls filled with burning firewood in both their hands and also in their mouth. The way they were twisting their hands without dropping the bowls were amazing.

In the cultural programmes, artists from various parts of India showed their talent in front of the large audience. Little children of Kendriya Vihar were performing various music and dance programme, which enthralled the audience. Community lunch served was so delicious and it was an opportunity for the people who came from other parts of India to taste the rich Bengali cuisine.

The whole colony wore a festive look during the festival. All residents were participated in the puja with great enthusiasm.

After witnessing the events of the puja pandal at Kendriya Vihar, I realized that how my opinion about Durga Puja was wrong. Durga Puja Committee members’ ability to accommodate all kind of people and involve them in the celebrations is really a quality that should inspire one and all. Though Durga puja originated from Bengal, it has metamorphosed itself as Puja for all the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion. I think it will not be an exaggeration if I termed it as ‘Secular Puja’. I hope you all would agree.

Bachelorette Party Ideas

Filed under: Relationship Tips — admin @ 1:35 pm

There are infinite ways to celebrate a bachelorette party, and your role as the organizer is to identify the bride-to-be’s preference, and find the perfect party idea to cater to that. Remember that every bride has a certain comfort level, so the party should be fun enough to be memorable but not go overboard as to embarrass or horrify her.

If you are planning a bachelorette party for a fun-loving bride, it’s a good idea to have a mischievous theme. She might enjoy an exciting night out with girlfriends in the hottest clubs around the city, or a wild party in a penthouse with a male stripper. Include flowing alcohol, music, and food, and you will surely have a great time. Don’t forget the gifts – tell the invited girls to give something playful and naughty so you can joke around as she opens them.

Some brides may be uncomfortable with sexually-themed parties, and if you are planning a bachelorette party for such a bride, play it safe and stick to more wholesome themes. Arrange for an afternoon of massages and spa treatments for a select group of girlfriends, for example, so you can have quality girl talk and help relax the bride as she prepares for her wedding. You can also rent a favorite restaurant and let her and her guests enjoy comfort food and good conversations. If your budget allows it, why not go out of town? Bring everyone to a nice countryside setting and enjoy the views and local culture.

The bachelorette party should not just be fun – it should also be memorable and safe. Here are other ideas to remember:

Keep the guest list relevant. Invite only friends who have been close to the bride at one point in her life. Contact old high school and college friends, childhood playmates, work friends and close female relatives. Avoid inviting people who barely know the bride, in order to keep the party intimate.

If you are planning to have a lot of liquor in the bachelorette party, always have a designated driver. You can either rent a limo or delegate the driving task to a friend who doesn’t drink much.

Finally, have fun. This is the time to let loose and celebrate female friendships. The bride will soon have a new life – it’s your responsibility to make the last moments of her single days unforgettable.

Engagement Rings – How To…

Filed under: Relationship Tips — admin @ 1:10 pm

Even thought buying a diamond engagement ring is the same as buying any other engagement ring, there are a few things you should think about before you step into the shop and let the experienced salesperson talk you into paying your last 3 months of hard work away.

One thing is sure. You made up your mind, you are going to ask the big question, you got the night all planned in your head… but you still need a ring to seal the deal. Take your time and read this through, ring buying can be very expensive for someone who doesn’t do any research, There is much to consider when purchasing a diamond – especially diamond engagement rings, do what a men do and have been doing throughout the last 300 years, get down to your knee and look for that small box in your pocket… now try and get all those words out correctly, and you may have to start thinking about wedding rings.

Most woman will expect a ring to accompany a wedding proposal, so make sure you got some idea of what her taste is like and who she is, would she go for a small, modest ring, or would she love to have everyone understand she is getting married just by the shine of a huge rock sitting on her finger, remember that an diamond engagement ring is also a clear sign for society to start congratulating both of you.

Budget is an issue here, since one can spend unrealistic sums of money when you are talking about diamonds rings, try and think of how much you can spend (not saying how much you want, since we all want to spend a lot on an engagement ring) and what kind of ring you can afford, not everyone can put in a few months of his hard work into this, and realistically, maybe you should save a little for after the weeding, don’t blow it al on the diamond engagement ring. Usually the ‘two months salary’ rule is the one to use. This means that the ring should cost the equivalent of two months of your current salary. Consider financing, go to the jeweler of your choice and tell them that you plan to buy an engagement ring, and that financing will be necessary. Make sure you do not give in easily to the jeweler and start getting into the numbers, see what kind of rings you can afford, and what is the general cost of different rings.

When in the store, keep a negotiation going, try not to let the sales people walk you through the buying experience, be involved and alert, and stick to what you want. Keep talking about prices, what you actually get in each ring and why is the price different, get a few rings that you like in front of you and keep comparing them. The average salesperson works on commission, and that the profit on these sales is huge, you can cut prices if you know how to talk shop with these people, even if you are not good at this – you can always try this system. Compare as many rings as you like, put them all in front of you, keep asking about prices and make sure you go back to the one you like a few times. You can also say that you really like it, and ask if he can make the price a little sweeter for you. Not a lot of sales people let a sale walk out the door, if you play your cards right, you can cut some of the price.

Zimmer Durom Cup Legal Issues Not Advantageous for Hip Replacement Patients

Filed under: Helpful Stuff — admin @ 3:51 am

Alot of people who got zimmer durom hip resurfacing used in their hip replacement surgical procedures are determining that there are negative effects that far surpass the natural expectations for recuperation. These individuals are experiencing a lot of excess pain for lengthier periods of time, looking forward to revision surgical procedures and magnified medical costs, and losing income by being unable to work at their regular businesses. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is postulating that that their hip cup implant is in no way faulty and not to be held accountable for the faulty surgical procedures, numerous people are filing cases against them and taking settlements.

In the month of October, 2008 Zimmer announced that it had reserved $47.5 million to pay for lawsuits filed against them. Many doctors aren’t so sure that the hip implant is not faulty as the company has suggested. In Point Of Fact, when Zimmer offered online coaching to doctors in order to teach them what they said were more accurate methods for doing the implant surgery, roughly 50% of the physicians refused to take part. Hence, the whole state of affairs proceeds to be nerve-racking for everyone participating, but none more than the hundreds of individuals who are expecting revision operation due to the problems with their implant experiencing looseness from the socket.

These miserable implant recipients definitely merit some assistance and compensation which is the main reason product liability lawyers are supporting them by telling them to start the filing of lawsuits. zimmer durom recall has been resolving these claims before they go to court. Nevertheless, even if the settlement they are being offered sounds like a fair amount, in numerous cases unfortunate people are resolving too quickly and with no provision or allowance put in place for reoccuring troubles if they return. If they don’t wait to find out what an actual case is worth, people might find themselves ending up paying alot more money out of pocket when more medical issues exist or surface.

Anyone who thinks they may have a claim against Zimmer may consider an investigation into it. If you imagine you might qualify, you should call a lawyer to find out for sure. Look for one that operates countrywide and who has a main focus on litigation against irregular medical devices. This law firm has gone so far as to setup a special division to uncover the details and process claims against Zimmer and secure equitable settlements for their customers.

If your orthopedic Dr. breaks the news that will have to have a revision surgical operation to repair your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, contact an lawyer as soon as humanly possible.

  • Standing Up – 5 points

Secrets of a Blockbuster Opening

Filed under: Publishers + Publishing — admin @ 7:27 pm

Writer/director John Sayles (Passion Fish, Lone Star, The Brother from Another Planet) is very particular about the beginning of his screenplays.

Whether the movies are dark and urban or bright and rural, he likes to let the audience know what kind of world they’re visiting, settling them comfortably into the place where they’ll be spending the next couple of hours.

That doesn’t just entail a nice description of the landscape. Sayles also pays attention to tone and character.

If it’s a comedy or tongue-in-cheek piece like Alligator, he’ll include some humor to clue the audience in. That way they’re “in on the joke” and they’ll know not to take the story too seriously.

If he’s introducing characters, he creates people who’ll credibly exist in that kind of world: gritty cops, square-jawed heroes or desert sheriffs.

He’s not just setting the scene; he’s making the world seem real, giving it a logic that provides believability. Then he gets on with telling the story.

If your screenplay’s going to a reader, don’t be shy to pop some clues in the first ten pages about the style, setting and characters.

It will help that reader to understand what kind of movie you’ve written, and the audience you’re aiming for.

It will help you to establish a rhythm as you’re writing, and get to know your world.

While our own lives are full of coincidences, surprises and inconsistencies, audiences like their movies to be less uneven. So look at your first ten pages and set up some events and locations that you can progress from in a logical fashion.

An example: a hardboiled mystery. We start off in a detective’s office – his personal ‘world’ – meet the hero and a client who leads him to another location. He finds a clue and that leads him somewhere else.

With some noir-ish action along the way, you have set the tone of the movie and the audience knows what to expect.

Then, you can throw them some curveballs…

Like a Flood: What The Church does with Killers like Katrina

Filed under: Great Religion Tips — admin @ 5:33 am

Isaiah 59:19 declares: “…when the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the lord lifts up a standard against him.”

I’m not all that sure that the original language in which this was written contained a comma after the word “flood.” I prefer to believe that the actual pause belongs after the word “IN.” Try it again: “When the enemy comes in, LIKE A FLOOD, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.”

There. That’s more like it.

When we think of “spiritual journeys,” we usually envision experiences that will lead us to peace and harmony, serenity and contentment. As we attempt to deal with the stuff of life, whether it’s emotional, physical, relational or financial, as spiritual beings, we tend to tap into spiritual things for comfort and guidance.

As you take your spiritual journey, beware! God may be taking you somewhere special and unexpected. Don’t fall for the illusion that spirituality is always a source of solace. There’s an old Yiddish proverb that goes, “God is an earthquake, not an uncle.”

Along those lines, do you recall the Prophet Elijah’s encounter with God on Mount Horeb? Here we have the mighty Prophet Elijah, fresh after his defeat of the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of the Asherah on Mount Carmel, being hunted by Queen Jezebel. While this mighty man of God was hiding from this woman, he encountered some other, very frightening things – natural elements that included an earthquake, wind, lightning, and fire. But by virtue of the depth of his relationship with God, he knew these could not have been sent by Him, the God who had cared for him for so many years. It was only when Elijah heard “a still small voice,” that he felt he was finally hearing from God of Heaven.

ARE YOU LISTENING?

It’s that same “still small voice” that each of us can listen for and be guided by – even when we are in situations less life-threatening than the path of a hurricane. Right now, we can let that voice direct our prayers for the refugees and the rescuers. We can listen and understand those who are impacted by disaster when we recognize that Hurricane Katrina was NOT God’s way of punishing the Big Easy, though it’s a fact that we will ALWAYS reap the consequences for the seeds we sow – good seeds and bad. If we’re listening, that still small voice will guide us through our own life’s disasters and strengthen us, even when the tide is rising.

How strong is your faith? It WILL be tested.

How strong is your family? The tests will come.

How strong is your church? Your organization? Your relationship? Your community? Your nation? Just as Jesus Himself was led by the Spirit to be tested by the devil (Gee, thanks, Spirit!), so , too, will WE be tested. How else will we know what we’re made of? Jesus said several times that He came “as an example.” If He went through trials, we, TOO, shall face trials. And if we FAIL the tests, we get to take them again and again till we pass to the next level.

WARNING: New level, new devil, but we must soldier-on if our lives are ever going to exhibit the fruit of our relationship with God. Don’t worry…once you’ve passed through the Refiner’s fire, you won’t smell a hint of smoke.

We have God’s promise.

HERE’S WHAT JESUS HAS TO SAY:

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it,” (Matt 7:24-27).
Jesus warned us about the coming flood of the last days, a storm that would be unleashed against the people of God. He described this flood to be accompanied by hurricane winds of testing, torrents of trouble, and rising tide of demonic fury.

In such days of persecution, wrath and trouble will pour out of the devil’s foul mouth against the Body of Christ: “Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! For the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time… he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child… and the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman [the church], that he might cause her to he carried away of the flood,” (Rev 12:12-15).

Will Satan literally spew floodwaters out of his mouth? No. The enemy WILL come against us with words, lies, half- truths, and every wicked thing that can be verbalized or even written. He will use our own minds and even other people to keep the “flood” coming at us relentlessly to get us where we have no solid foundation on which to stand.

By now, we’ve all seen the TV footage of Katrina’s floodwaters carrying with it everything from cars to trains to houses, destroying everything in its path. This is why God says our enemy comes in like a “flood”, using words of destruction to bring us down and to destroy us. Satan wants to do to us what a flood does to everything in its path.

LIFT UP A STANDARD

As was mentioned at the start in Isaiah 59:19, a “standard is lifted up by the Spirit of the Lord on our behalf. What is the “standard”? How do we make use of this resource? We find the answer in Revelation 12:11 “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.”

There it is, the “word of their testimony” was the overcoming action they used. Yes, we hate those tests but we do love the testimonies, don’t we?

We also find in Isaiah 59:21 “As for Me,” says the LORD, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the LORD, “from this time and forevermore.”

God has placed His Word in our mouths. Not only in our minds (Psalm 119:11 says: “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you!”) Certainly, His Word is in our Bibles, but He wants the Word in our mouths. In our hearts. We overcome the “flood” of the enemy by God’s Words coming out of our mouths. Our testimony. Jesus used this when He was tested; our example. Jesus only responded to Satan in His wilderness discipleship course with the Word.

God has provided the perfect weapon to use. His Word is powerful and Satan cannot stand against it. It is so much more than a levee that diverts the flood he sends our way; it swallows it up.

We now have everything we need for covenant living. We can have triumphant lives, pleasing to God, serving Jesus and following the small voice of the Holy Spirit.

IS GOD YOUR HIDING PLACE?

I’ve faced some tragic crises, both personal and professional. My own dad once asked me why it was I wasn’t seeing a psychologist after all I’d been through. It’s because Jesus is REAL to me; real as you are. In the darkest hours of my soul, the only place where I’ve found the genuine “peace that passes all understanding” and the “unspeakable joy” referred to by Paul the Apostle came as a result of a relationship with God in trusting that He truly is my refuge.

Regarding Katrina, there will be much to do to recover from this mess. God’s presence and power will be available to guide and direct recovery efforts as well as the return to civilization for all who will call upon Him. Throughout the restoration effort, His love, mercy and grace will continue to be available as the refuge that comforts, strengthens, and restores the spirit of those in need. My warning to those being tested through this recent, overwhelming disaster: Do NOT be too quick to detest your current discomfort. We in the West would do well to learn to embrace the thorns as well as stopping to smell every delightful rose.

This life is not “it” for you.

There’s more.

It gets better.

We can never expect to be satisfied here anyway.

Need hope for the “floods” that seem to be overtaking YOUR life right now? Read this from Jeremiah 29:11-14: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me. When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.”

DO YOU WANT TO HELP?

The largest displacement of Americans since the Civil War reverberated across the country from New Orleans yesterday, as more than half a million people uprooted by Hurricane Katrina seek shelter, sustenance and are facing the uncertainties of starting some sort of new lives.

Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and his wife Shonda paid to fly a New Orleans family of nine to Boston and pledged to provide them with housing for a year. The Fields family, with seven children between the ages of 5 and 12, fled New Orleans just before Hurricane Katrina struck.
“When we realized how many people had nowhere to go, we didn’t just want to make a donation,” Shonda Schilling told The Boston Globe. “We decided we wanted to bring an entire family here and put them up.”

The families connected through a Web site, OpenYourHome.com, which matches displaced families with people willing to house them. The Schillings registered Friday and on Saturday anonymously arranged for the family to fly to Boston.

Additionally, the American Red Cross has set up a site where individuals may volunteer their homes or request a place to stay. That site is located at KatrinaHousing.org. Check it out. To Christians everywhere, we must ask ourselves the question, if we do not take these displaced families in, taking advantage of the opportunity to make disciples, who will?

Over the years, I have taken in homeless people myself. A gay witch. A long-bearded alcoholic brick-layer. A former Army Ranger who had just become a Christian after years in the occult. A black crack addict. Several others on a very short-term basis. I have also been that person seeking shelter, trusting that God was going to provide in one way or another. He always did.

My advice to anyone is simply: (1) make sure you’re being led by the Spirit. A “good” idea is not always a GOD idea.(2) if you take someone in, set the house rules IN WRITING so that your guests know what’s expected by both parties, what will not be tolerated and what the consequences will be if rules are broken. (3) involve church leadership; keep everyone accountable. There are more. implementing these would be a good start.

Live Webcasts of Carnival

Filed under: Webcam Resources — admin @ 6:45 pm

This week some Independent Senators complained that their Parliamentary Committees were left out of Government’s plan to broadcast live sittings. Government allocated some $10 million to this end. Now, how do you spend $10 million on live broadcasts? I don’t know. What I do know is that it would be a lot more affordable to webcast the sittings of Parliament and you wouldn’t have to exclude anyone. In fact the whole thing could be controlled remotely.

Set up the cameras, the webhosting, design the website and you’re live for 1 billion Internet users around the world, not just 1.6 million who live here. How would you fund it? Well, I can’t see it costing anywhere near $1 million, but let’s just say it does. There are at least two ways you can fund it.

First, it would be difficult to think that after the government justified a budget of $10 million to broadcast the sittings of Parliament only, the same government would turn around and say it will cost nothing additional to broadcast the sittings of the Parliamentary Committees too. So Government is likely to be willing to spend some more. The second method is a lot simpler: sell ads. It shouldn’t be too difficult to find a couple of companies with deep pockets that want to get on the good side of Parliamentarians by making them familiar faces on the World Wide Web. Who knows, Trinidad & Tobago might end up being the first Parliament ever to webcast everything. Yea for transparency!

Now, on to Carnival. As some of you may have read in past Internet Opportunities, Breaking News sells “Live Help” software that allows website owners to monitor traffic on their websites in real time. This is a lot more than just stats. “Live Help” software actually allows you to know when someone is on your site, from whence they came and what they’re looking for. You don’t get to see who the person is but you do see an I.P. address moving around.

Over the Carnival weekend, I made an amazing discovery. People were searching for “Carnival Webcam.” Now, here comes the freebie. We did a search and “CarnivalWebcam.com” and “CarnivalWebcast.com” are available for registration. Go to the International Internet Authority and see for yourself. So next year, if you’re a Carnival person (because I’m not), you might want to register these names and set up a website webcasting Carnival live. There are a lot of people overseas thirsty to see the action, the market of homesick Trinbagonians who can’t tell their bosses, “Doh ask meh to wuk for Carnaval!”

Aleem Khan, a senior partner at Breaking News, is one of the few people in the world with a four letter domain name bn.gs. He is an accredited Agent of the International Internet Authority who speaks Spanish, French and English.
